I'm not referring to papillae, the bumps on which taste buds are located, but rather to the actual taste-buds themselves. Do they have a scientific name?

The actual tasting part of the taste bud is called a gustatory cell, it's a chemoreceptor that receives the chemical stimulus and carries it to the nerves leading to the brain.
