Is the scientific name and the genus and species the same thing?

for example the american bird grasshopper's scientific name is Schistocera americana. would Schistocera be the genus and americana be the species?

i have a project due soon and appreciatete the help!

You betcha!
Reply:Sort of. Schistocera is the generic name. americana is the specific trivial name. The name of the species is the scientific name, unless you are classifying down to subspecies, in which case the scientific name has three parts, generic, specific trivial, and subspecific trivial. If that's clear, email me and I'll try to do a better job of confusing you. ;-)
Reply:yes
