What is te scientific name for the fern and where does the fern live?
Naughty naughty, are you having us do your homework?

Ferns, there are a lot of them. They are an order called Pteridophyta. They generally live in moist areas.
Reply:Pteridophytes. This is the actually name for a grouping of flowerless plants, which includes ferns, horsetails, club mosses, quillworts, and other similar plants.

Ferns proper are divided into in about 40 families and there are between 10,000 and 15,000 species of fern have been classified. The big difference in the numbers is due to botanists not being able to agree. Over the past hundred years or so there have been fourteen different classifications, so as you may guess there are plenty of names. Some examples of family names: Ophioglossaceae, Marattiaceae, Osmundaceae, Plagiogyraceae, Stromatopteridaceae, Gleicheniaceae, Cheiropleuriaceae, Dipteridaceae, Negripteridaceae, Loxsomataceae and Blechnaceae (try saying those before breakfast)

Where do they live? Almost everywhere but, in general, they prefer warm moist habitats.
Reply:There are many types of fern, they all have their own latin names. Dryopteris is one GENERAL latin name for a group some common varieties of ferns. Of course each variety has it's own specific name also, for example, Dryopteris remota. There are lots of other groups also. See the website below.

As for habitat, they love wooded areas, with lots of moisture.
