What is the scientific name for the plant embryonic structure that is destroyed in “pre-emergent damping off”? What is the common name for this structure?
Scientific name?
I searched for this because memories from botany class are a little fuzzy. I am not sure what you mean by "pre-emergent damping off", but here is a list of structures in a seed and a website.
Outside:
Seed coat - outer protective shell of plant embryo
Endosperm - nutritive matter there for growth of embryo
Embryo:
radicle - Embryonic root
cotyledons - seed leaf (1 in monocot, 2 in dicot)
plumule - embryonic shoot.
epicotyl - the embryonic stem above the point of attachment of the cotyledon(s)
hypocotyl - embryonic stem below point of attachment
Reply:3N/Triploid endosperm --%26gt; commonly known as cotyledons
Cotyledons diminish as the seedling grows, since they are used up.
Reply:the seed. duh.
