What is the scientific name of a bee....perhaps a honey bee?
I found something like Apis mellifera
is that right...and if not what do you think it is?

The usual bee that people get honey from (european honeybee) is indeed Apis mellifera - translates from Latin and Greek as "Honey-bearing bee".
