What is the scientific name for a tree that does not lose its leaves?
conifer
What is the scientific name for a tree that does not lose its leaves?
evergreen
Reply:They are known as evergreen plants, in contrast to deciduous plants (that do loose their leaves).
Reply:All trees will drop their older leaves as the plant grow. It's a matter of time. Some will drop their leaves in response to the environment, eg winter. And this is called deciduous. This is a very common phenomenon in the temperate region. What u see the green part of coniferous is not leaves, but modified stems and branches.
In tropical areas, plants will drop their older leaves continuously from time to time and being replaced by new shoots simultaneously. This type of plants are called evergreen
Occasionally in the tropics, when the weather is too dry for too long (say around 2 months without rainfall, which is not very common in the tropics), the plants will drop all their leaves at the same time, just like during autumn in temperate ares. This is a mechanism for the plant to prevent too much water lost from their system.
Reply:I wouldn't say that it is very scientific, but the term used is evergreen. Evergreens are trees that retain their needles year round ie. Norway spruce and White pine.

What is the scientific name of Merino Sheep?
I'm just curious, what is the scientific name of Merino Sheep?
What is the scientific name of Merino Sheep?
There are two proposed origins[1] for the Spanish word:
"Merino may be an adaptation to the sheep of the name of a Castilian official inspector (merino) over a merindad, who may have also inspected sheep pastures. This word is from the medieval Latin majorinus, a steward or head official of a village, from major, meaning great.
Merino may from the name of a Berber tribe, the Marini (or in Castilian, Benimerines), which intervened in the Iberian peninsula during the 12th and 13th centuries. "
Reply:Ovis aries is the name for domestic sheep
Reply:All domestic sheep are the same genus species, Orvis aries. There are a listed 112 breeds of sheep. There are 3 known wild species.
Merino Sheep Types

Molecular analysis of wild and domestic sheep
questions current nomenclature and provides evidence for domestication from two different subspecies
